Directional Antennas for Wireless Sensor Networks

چکیده

Directional antennas provide angle-ofarrival information, which can be used for localization and routing algorithms in wireless sensor networks. We briefly describe three classical, major types of antennas: 1) the Adcock-pair antenna, 2) the pseudoDoppler antenna, and 3) the electronically switched parasitic element antenna. We have found the last type to be the most suitable for wireless sensor networks, and we present here the early design details and beam pattern measurements of a prototype antenna for the 2.4-GHz ISM band, the SPIDA: SICS Parasitic Interference Directional Antenna .

Evaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...

Distributed and Cooperative Compressive Sensing Recovery Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks with Bi-directional Incremental Topology

Recently, the problem of compressive sensing (CS) has attracted lots of attention in the area of signal processing. So, much of the research in this field is being carried out in this issue. One of the applications where CS could be used is wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The structure of WSNs consists of many low power wireless sensors. This requires that any improved algorithm for this appli...

Design and Implementation of an Antenna Model for the Cooja simulator

COOJA is a network simulator developed for wireless sensor networks. It can be used for high-level algorithm development as well as low-level device driver implementations for accurate simulation of wireless sensor networks before deployment. However, in a simulation Cooja assumes that the nodes are only equipped with omnidirectional antennas. There is currently no support for directional anten...

Solving the Hidden Terminal problems Using Directional- Antenna Based MAC Protocol for Wireless Adhoc Networks

In wireless networks, hidden terminal problem is common and leads to collision which makes it difficult to provide the required quality of multimedia services or support priority based services. To overcome these problems a directional antennas have been extensively used in designing MAC protocols for wireless network. Directional antennas provide many advantages over the classical antennas. In...

Wireless Sensor Network Security Enhancement Using Directional Antennas: State of the Art and Research Challenges

Being often deployed in remote or hostile environments, wireless sensor networks are vulnerable to various types of security attacks. A possible solution to reduce the security risks is to use directional antennas instead of omnidirectional ones or in conjunction with them. Due to their increased complexity, higher costs and larger sizes, directional antennas are not traditionally used in wirel...
